What are flavourings substances and what are they used for?
Flavouring substances are used in food and beverage production. They cannot be consumed as such. The use of flavouring substances in Europe is governed by REGULATION (EU) N°. 1334/2008.
What is the difference between flavourings substances and natural flavourings substances?
The correct definitions are contained in Regulation (EU) N°. 1334/2008, articles 16 and 17. Basically, natural flavouring substances are made up of ingredients obtained from natural sources and can be defined as either “natural flavouring substances” or “natural flavouring substances of…” in product labels; whereas nonnatural flavouring substances are also made up of synthetic ingredients.
